Spurr, Joan Delores (Adamson) - 74, of Kingston. On September 18, 2014, at 5:30 am, I lost my sweet little Joanie, my best friend, and the love of my life. Joanie was born in Glace Bay, NS, on February 13, 1940, to the late Russell Charles and Clara Mae (MacDonald) Adamson. On November 23, 1940, Russell signed onto a ship in a convoy that left Sydney for overseas as a fireman. On December 21, Russell was killed in an air raid on the convoy. Russell was the only man killed on his ship. His name is remembered on a monument in Pt. Pleasant Park, Halifax and has no known grave. As Joanie was only nine months old when Russell was killed; she had no father's love until her mother, Clara, married Delma Clayton Anderson on August 5, 1946. Clayton cared for Joanie and loved her as if she were his own. She became a big sister to Delma when he was born on February 21, 1949. Joanie met William (Bill) on a blind date in 1955 and got married on February 25, 1956. Bill joined the RCAF July 23, 1952, at the age of 17. He served for over 32 years. During which time Bill and Joanie moved around the country with their five children, going wherever Bill's postings took them. Joanie was a great mother at such a young age, having five children by the time she was 21 years old. She loved to cook and was very good at it. Doing several different jobs through her years, she was always drawn back to the kitchen, cooking for others made her happy. She was a member of the Middleton Legion Branch No.1; as well as the Kingston Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 58 years, William H. Spurr (1935); children, David(1956) (Joan), Fort McMurray, AB, Stephen(1958) (Dianna), Hantsport, NS, Patricia(1959) (Shelley), Edmonton, AB, Rodney(1960) (Sandra), Carp, ON, and Michael(1961) (Kim), Ottawa, ON; her brother, Delma (Carol) Anderson, Port Wade; brothers-in-law: James (Carol) Spurr, Lawrence (Meredith) Spurr, Winston Spurr and Henry Spurr; stepbrother-in-law, Harold (Pauline) Rice; stepsister-in-law, Phyllis (Rice) (Louie) Gates; grandchildren: Jocelyn Spurr, Matthew (Grace) Rawn, Nicholas Spurr, Corey Spurr, Amanda Spurr, Christine Spurr and Mark Spurr; great grandchildren: Darren, Cassandra and Jason Rawn.
