Obituary of Gertrude Eileen Leonard

Leonard (Anderson) Gertrude “Eileen” – 88, of Bridgewater, passed away with quiet dignity on January 26, 2015, in the Annapolis Community Health Centre with her children present. Born at Allain’s River, Annapolis County, she was the youngest daughter of the late Eva Gladys Spurr and Stanley EverettAnderson and the last remaining member of her family. She graduated from Annapolis Royal Academy and joined the local branch of Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Co., where she worked for several years before marrying Ernest Leonard. They lived at several locations in the Annapolis Valley before settling in Bridgewater where she resided for 59 years. Her interests were many and included music, painting, needlework including cross stitch and sewing as well as photography. Her photos of sunsets and flowers were a source of pride and appreciation. She and her husband were happy to share the abundance of their flower and vegetable gardens with friends and neighbours. She was a volunteer for many casues including the Friends of the DesBrisay Museum, and a member of the Christian Women’s Club, Altantic Rebekah Lodge No. 52 and the Bridgewater Golf and Country Club. She will be deeply missed and forever loved and remembered by daughter, Sandra (Ken) Clark; son, Larry Leonard; granddaughter, Lindsey (Taylor) Levangie; grandson, Jamie (Jaclyn) Clark; grandchildren, Farrah Dawn and Jude Thomas as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 2012 by her husband of 61 years, Ernest Leonard; sisters, Vera Gibson, Ruby Goucher, Ellen Porter, Freeda Fox, Jean Durling; brothers, Lloyd, Lawrence and Joseph. Special appreciation is extended to the staff of A.C.H.C. and her caregivers at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home (Wolfe Wing) and CareChoices in Bridgewater for their tender loving care and companionship. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal from where visitation will take place on Friday January 30th from 7-9 p.m.. Memorial service will take place on Saturday Jan 31st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, St. George St, Annapolis Royal with Rev. Canon Kenneth Vaughan officiating. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Dugway Rd at a later date.
