Obituary of Isabel Josie Longmire

Longmire, Isabel Josie, 95 of Annapolis Royal passed away February 21, 2015 in the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home, surrounded by her family and ably attended by the nursing home staff. Although in failing health for some time, she joined other residents at the ARNH for the evening meal. Born in Litchfield, she was the eldest daughter of the late Charlie and Mildred (McCaul) Milbury. The family lived for several years in the late 1920’s in Boston. They moved back to Nova Scotia in the early 1930’s and settled in Hillsburn. After short periods of employment at the Whipple Grocery store in St. John, NB; as a housekeeper in Clarence for $2 per week and at the Milford House she married James Longmire in 1940. Together they established and ran the Hillsburn General Store in the 1940’s and 50’s. Isabel was respected for her love of church and community. She was a member of the Hillsburn United Baptist Church, a Life member of the WMS, and an active participant in the Friendship Circle. Upon moving to Annapolis Royal in 1984 she became an adherent of the AR First Baptist Church and a member of the Apple Blossom Club. She is survived by sons, Murray (Juanita) of Hillsburn and Philip (Julie Benson) of Kentville; grandchildren, Wanda (Danny) Thibodeau, Donna (Brian) Bent, Bruce (Laura) Longmire; great grandchildren: Brandon (Sarah) Thibodeau and Tamara Longmire; great great grandchildren, Kate, Isaac and James Thibodeau; sister, Joyce (daughter Joanna) Kaye of Hillsburn; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Kaye and Cash Feindel, several nieces and nephews. Isabel was predeceased by her husband James; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Jean (Art) Taylor, Hildajane (Francis) Miller, and Winslow Kaye. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday from the First United Baptist Church of Annapolis Royal with Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Legassie and Rev. Dr. Roger Prentice officiating. Interment in Hillsburn Cemetery will be held in the spring. Donations in Isabel’s memory may be sent to the Hillsburn Cemetery Fund or to a charity of your choice.
