Obituary of Malcolm Guilford Whitman

Whitman, Malcolm Guilford – 86, of Bridgetown, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on September 18, 2015, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in East Inglisville, Annapolis County, he was the son of the late Guilford and Linda (Malcolm) Whitman. At the age of 18, Malcolm moved to Bridgetown and was employed for over 25 years with 7Up/Sussex Limited until the plant closed. He then worked briefly with the Town of Bridgetown and Hank DeBoer Modular Homes. Malcolm retired from Mountain Lea Lodge after 15 years of dedicated service working as the head of maintenance. He was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and camping. A meticulous gardener, Malcolm took great pleasure in maintaining his fruit trees and property. Woodworking was also one of his passions, as well as tinkering with anything that needed to be fixed. Malcolm enjoyed meeting and talking to people, and he was always willing to lend a hand. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Miriam (Durling), Crosskill Court, Bridgetown; children, Shane (Peggy) Whitman, Paradise; Sheena (David) Charlton, North Williamston; and, Steffany (Mike) Maillet, Middleton; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Iuli), Toby (Anette), Gillian (Corey), Nicki, Jared, Elyse, Ashley (Jason), Stephen, Marlee, Sophie, and Simon; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Nicholas, and Henry; sisters, Lillian LeRue, Halifax, Joyce O’Brien, Truro, and Shirley Whitman, Bedford; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sybil (Henri) Whitman; sisters, Josie, Eleanor, Claire, Erna, and Miriam; and, brother Charlie in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown where visitation will be held from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, September 22. The funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, September 23 in the Bridgetown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brian Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the Whitman Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations may be made in Malcolm’s memory to Mountain Lea Lodge or the Terry Fox Foundation.
